Here you’ll find a range of resources to help you promote the BSOL Health app to your patients. But first, we wanted to make you aware of some valuable additional features you may not have set up yet that will help your practice drive efficiencies and improve patient experience.
Our Target Messaging platform enables your practice to send mass messaging SMS campaigns, appointment reminders and friends and family surveys automatically to your patients.
It’s included as part of the app package and can be set up free of charge. It has been confirmed by the CCG that the text message consumption will be covered along with the cost of the product licensing. The CCG will be billed directly for this so there’s no need to worry about setting up credits etc.

Admin forms and clinical assessments
Did you know that you can set up a range of forms which will allow your patients to send admin requests into your practice directly from the app? All the requests are routed by email to your practice, so they can be processed when it’s convenient for your team.
Patients can use this feature to:
- Inform the practice of updated contact details
- Request a sick/fit note
- Order medication
- Follow-up on a referral
- Send a general message to the practice/GP
- Send a request to join a patient participation group
Clinical assessments/questionnaires for conditions like diabetes and COPD can also be added and linked to appointment booking so you can gather any necessary information prior the appointment or use as a way of monitoring patients remotely.

Promoting the app
Promoting the app and encouraging your patients to use it offers so many benefits for them and your practice. If you have any feedback on the resources or have any ideas for new materials, please email them through to email@example.com.
In a pilot conducted by NHS Digital, it was found that sending text messages to patients was the most effective method of encouraging uptake of an app, with around 20% of patients clicking the link provided for more information. NHS Digital say that although some practices in the pilot were concerned that text message campaigns could generate phone calls from patients, they found that very few patients contacted their practice after they received a text message.

If you’re a patient at our practice we would encourage you to use the Birmingham & Solihull App as a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or computer.
You can use the app to check your symptoms, book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, view your GP health record and more.

Using the app means that you won’t need to call the surgery to book appointments or order repeat prescriptions. You can do all this at your convenience via app, 24 hours a day. The app offers additional features including a symptom checker, and you can view your GP health record plus any test results too. If you have children or someone you care for, you can link your account with theirs so you can manage their health for them in the same way.
